What is BIRSA?
Who we are, our mission, and how the committee works.
Last updated: 23 July 2026
BIRSA (the BIR Student Association) is the official representative body of students in the BIR programme, the student-run association for students of the Bachelor of Political Science in Politics and International Relations (BIR) at Thammasat University's Faculty of Political Science.
Our mission
BIRSA is the link between BIR students and the Faculty of Political Science: it carries student concerns to the faculty and carries information back. BIRSA also handles students' rights and welfare in the practical, everyday matters that affect your time at BIR.
Every year the committee runs two kinds of projects: academic initiatives that support your learning, and recreational activities that build community across year groups. The committee also runs events, maintains this portal, and represents students in matters that affect BIR.
BIRSA is a student-run association that works alongside the BIR programme and faculty, but we are not a university office. This website is BIRSA's official site, though it is not an official university channel. For official academic and enrolment matters, always use the BIR Programme's own channels. See The BIR programme.
The committee
BIRSA is run by an elected committee of BIR students: officers who each lead one area of BIRSA's work, and assistant officers who support them day to day. See Officer roles for the full roster and what each position is responsible for.
Committee decisions are made collectively: members discuss proposals relevant to their area before larger decisions are agreed as a group. Bigger initiatives, such as new events or major changes to student services, usually involve wider consultation with BIR students.
How to join
Committee positions open around the start of each academic year, announced through BIRSA's social channels and News. To get involved before a formal opening, contact a current committee member; see Contact BIRSA.
You do not need to be a committee member to contribute; many BIRSA activities rely on volunteers and short-term helpers around specific events. See Getting involved for more ways in.
