Clubs#

Clubs at Thammasat run at three levels: within the BIR programme itself, across Tha Prachan Campus, and university-wide. You can join clubs at any or all of these levels.

BIR clubs#

BIR students run 12 clubs of their own: volunteer camps, a podcast, a writers' club, music, four sports teams including esports, a card game club, and three clubs that simulate an institution (the United Nations, the Thai Parliament, and an investment fund). Faculty and campus clubs (TPC)#

Tha Prachan Campus (TPC) also runs clubs (ชุมนุม) and independent groups (กลุ่มอิสระ) open to any student on campus, not just BIR students. Clubs and independent groups sometimes cover the same activity under a different name and Instagram handle, so use the handle in this table.

University clubs (TU)#

Thammasat also runs university-wide clubs and societies, covering academics, hobbies and service. As a Thammasat student, you can join those too.

Elected student bodies#

Thammasat also elects students to represent you and to hold student organisations accountable.

TUSU Tha Prachan (อมธ. ท่าพระจันทร์)#

The Thammasat University Student Union (TUSU, องค์การนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ or อมธ.) represents students and is directly elected by them. It is structured in four parts: a central union (อมธ. ส่วนกลาง) alongside separate unions for each campus, Tha Prachan (อมธ. ท่าพระจันทร์), Rangsit (อมธ. ศูนย์รังสิต) and Lampang (อมธ. ศูนย์ลำปาง).

TUSU's role has three parts:

• organising activities and projects that develop student life across the university
• protecting student rights and promoting student welfare
• supporting the work of clubs, activity groups and each faculty's student committee

TUSC (สภานักศึกษา)#

The Thammasat University Student Council (TUSC, สภานักศึกษา) is also directly elected, with 100 members drawn from students across all three campuses (Tha Prachan, Rangsit and Lampang). Its role:

• it speaks for students to the university's administrators on complaints, welfare and campus life issues
• it approves the budgets that TUSU, clubs and activity groups draw from the student activity fund
• it scrutinises how TUSU, the election commission, clubs and activity groups spend that money

Faculty and programme student committees#

Every faculty and programme at Tha Prachan has its own elected student committee. BIR's own committee, สโมสรนักศึกษาสาขาการเมืองการระหว่างประเทศ (BIR), is BIRSA itself, the publisher of this site.

Doing things on campus#

Borrowing sports equipment. Bring your student card to your own faculty, or to the TUSU Tha Prachan room on floor 2 of the student activity building (ตึกกิจกรรมนักศึกษา).

Booking a room. To book a room in the student activity building or the gym, use the SATU booking system (opens in a new tab) and attach the request form (แบบฟอร์มขอความอนุเคราะห์).

BIRSA events#

BIRSA organises events throughout the year: orientation activities, socials, talks, and faculty-wide gatherings. These are open to all BIR students and are usually free or low-cost. Check What's on for sign-up windows.

Volunteering#

Volunteering opportunities run through BIRSA, the faculty, and independent causes, ranging from one-off event support to ongoing commitments. Check BIRSA's channels for calls for volunteers, especially around bigger events.

Benefits of taking part#

• Regular club meetings build friendships that last past a single semester.
• Clubs and volunteering build skills, organising, public speaking, teamwork, that do not show up on a transcript.
