BIRify
The BIR student podcast: making it BIR.
BIRify is a podcast hosted by BIR students. Episodes cover news analysis, politics, debates, history, popular culture, and what is going on inside the faculty, in both Thai and English.
Episodes cover the BIR programme and beyond, ranging from topics you would recognise from a reading list to topics you would not. Past episodes have covered the film Inside Out, menstruation policy, urban loneliness, and the reign of Henry VIII, alongside a spin-off series, "(History of) NO IDEA", on intellectual history.
Three departments
BIRify is run by three teams, and you apply to the one whose work you want to do.
Content creator
- Coming up with content and researching the topics, academic or casual
- Scripting and narrating each episode
- Writing each episode's short description
Sound checking
- Prepping the sound system, a microphone, and a recording room
- Directing the recording process
- Solving technical issues, if any
- Removing background noise and editing the podcast
- Releasing the episodes on Spotify and YouTube
Public relations
- Designing promotional graphics for each episode: episode posters at 1:1 and 16:9, and speaker posters at 16:9
- Running all of BIRify's social media accounts, mainly Instagram
Where to listen
The channel has more than 50 episodes and over a thousand subscribers on YouTube alone. You can listen on Spotify and YouTube, and the club posts on Instagram and TikTok. Every link is collected at linktr.ee/birify (opens in a new tab).
Two well-listened starting points: episode 18, on what happens at a volunteer camp, and episode 36, on why politics students have to study PI121.
How to join
Follow @birify (opens in a new tab) on Instagram, where member recruitment is posted. The club has most recently been recruiting for public relations and sound checking.
If you would rather write than record, BIR's other student publication may suit you better:
