Course description
The course introduces the field of political economy by examining key theoretical developments through history of the discipline. The course will also examine the emergence and evolution of capitalism beginning with the study of the first and the second “global trading” systems followed by other important developments until the rise of developmental state under the current trend of globalisation.

Exam format: The final exam is based on the readings. Before every class you write and print a short essay of two or three paragraphs on the reading, and missing one costs 5%. Surprise quizzes on the readings can make up to 15% within the participation mark.
Attendance: Attendance is checked twice each class. Each missed class costs 5% and arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving early costs 2%. Missing more than four classes without good reason means an F.
