BIR Mock Fund (IAIC)

A mock investment fund where geopolitics drives the portfolio.

The International Affairs Investing Club runs BIR's mock fund. Members role-play a portfolio management group, working with notional capital provided by the club's board and trying to generate surpluses and gains from it.

No real money is involved. The exercise is to read events such as a defence procurement story or a commodities shock, then act on them in the fund. The club is for anyone interested in global political economy, international relations and geopolitics, or the place where finance and politics meet.

No real money is involved. IAIC is not a joint investment scheme, not a pyramid scheme, not an exclusive finance club, and not a financial consultancy. Nobody in it is a licensed adviser, and nothing it produces is investment advice.

How the fund is organised

A board of directors, made up of the president and co-founders, sits above trade execution. Beneath it the fund is split into sector desks:

  • Information technology
  • Defence and industrials
  • Commodities
  • Alternatives

All sub-departments take new members. You can join whichever sector you want to follow.

What members do

Three activities interlock:

  1. Workshops, which build the financial literacy the rest depends on
  2. Geopolitical reports, the research that forms a view
  3. Financial markets simulation, where that view gets tested against real prices

How to join

Follow @iaic_club (opens in a new tab) on Instagram and join the club's LINE group, which is posted there. Applications are open across every sector desk.
