Each course sets how it is assessed, and the syllabus states the mix. It can include a mid-term, a final exam, papers, presentations and class participation.
Attendance is required throughout the semester, and each course sets its own attendance rule. Read the syllabus or ask the instructor in the first week.
Courses graded S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) do not count towards your GPA. Every other grade counts towards your cumulative GPA, which is the average across all your semesters, summer sessions included.
