What happens at each GPA
Your standing is judged on your cumulative GPA, not your GPA for one semester. It is checked at the end of every semester.
| Cumulative GPA | When | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 2.00 or above | Any semester | Normal standing. |
| Below 2.00 | End of your first semester | A special warning. You continue. |
| 1.50 to 1.99 | End of your second semester, after that warning | First warning. You continue. |
| Below 1.50 | End of your second semester, after that warning | Dismissal. |
| Below 2.00 | Any later semester, the first time | First warning. |
| Below 2.00 | The next semester, after a first warning | Second warning. |
| Below 2.00 | The next semester, after a second warning | Probation. |
| Below 2.00 | The next semester, after probation | Dismissal. |
| 1.80 to 1.99 | You have finished all the credits you need | You can ask the Rector to let you continue for up to 3 semesters to reach 2.00. |
A cumulative GPA of 1.75, for example, falls in the 1.50 to 1.99 band. In your first year it means a first warning at the end of the second semester. In a later year it moves you one step along the chain.
Each step happens only if your cumulative GPA is still below 2.00. Your standing is judged again at the end of every semester. Summer grades count in your cumulative GPA, and your standing is judged after a summer session, so a summer session can change your standing.
Worked example
A student's cumulative GPA at the end of each semester.
| Semester | Cumulative GPA | Standing |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2568 | 2.05 | Normal |
| 2/2568 | 1.86 | First warning |
| 1/2569 | 1.92 | Second warning |
| 2/2569 | 1.95 | Probation |
| 1/2570 | 1.98 | Dismissal |
The semesters in this example are illustrative.
First-year students
At the end of your first semester, a cumulative GPA below 2.00 brings a special warning. A GPA of exactly 2.00 is normal standing.
At the end of your second semester, a cumulative GPA from 1.50 to 1.99 brings a first warning, and you continue. A cumulative GPA below 1.50 means dismissal.
Two warnings in a row lead to probation
If your cumulative GPA is still below 2.00 after a second warning, you are placed on probation. If it is still below 2.00 one semester later, you are dismissed. Contact your adviser as soon as you receive a first warning.
