Missing an exam

If you cannot attend an exam for a reason you could not avoid, you or someone you appoint submits a petition to the Dean through the course instructor within 10 days of the exam. Keep evidence, such as a medical certificate.

If the petition is approved, you either withdraw from the course and receive a W, or the instructor assesses you in another way. If it is not approved, the instructor assesses you on the work you have already submitted.

Leave of absence

You request leave from the Dean and give a reason. The route depends on when you ask.

When you askWhat happens
Before you register, within 30 days of the semester openingLeave is recorded for the semester. You pay the fee to maintain student status.
After you register, within 14 days of the opening (7 in summer)Your courses are deleted from your record, and you pay the fee to maintain student status.
Later in the semester, up to week 10 (week 4 in summer)Your courses are recorded as W. Ask the BIR office first, because approval may be needed beyond the Dean.

If you neither register nor request leave within 30 days of the semester opening, you are dismissed. See Registering, adding and dropping courses.

You cannot take leave in your first two semesters without the Rector's approval. Leave beyond two consecutive semesters also needs the Rector's approval.

Leave and the time limit

Leave counts as study time. It does not extend the 8-year maximum. See Grades, GPA and graduating.

Suspension

Suspension is a disciplinary penalty, and it is different from leave. You pay the fee to maintain student status while suspended.

  • If the suspension starts in a later semester and you have already paid tuition and fees, you are refunded them and pay the fee to maintain student status instead.
  • If the suspension starts in the current semester, all your enrolled courses are deleted from your record.
  • Suspension counts towards the 8-year maximum.

Ask before you stop attending

Stopping attendance without a leave request can lead to failed courses or dismissal. Speak to the BIR office at bir@tu.ac.th first.

  • Registering, adding and dropping coursesYou register online in the period the Registrar's Office announces, for up to 22 credits in a semester and 6 in the summer session.
  • If your GPA is lowYour standing is judged on your cumulative GPA each semester, and a GPA below 2.00 leads from a first warning to a second warning, probation and dismissal.
  • Grades, GPA and graduatingTo graduate you need the credits for your curriculum and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00, within 8 years.
