Bangkok has two main airports, Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). Neither has a direct train to Tha Prachan, which has no station of its own. By train, the nearest stop is MRT Sanam Chai. With heavy luggage or a late arrival, a taxi goes to the gate.
Before you land
Submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 3 days before you arrive. The steps are in Getting your student visa.
Suvarnabhumi by train
- Take the Airport Rail Link City Line to Makkasan.
- At Makkasan, walk through the interchange to MRT Phetchaburi.
- Take the MRT Blue Line to Sanam Chai and leave by the Museum Siam exit.
- From Sanam Chai, take the free shuttle on weekdays, bus 2-5 (32) or 2-9 (53), or a taxi. Shuttle times are on Free shuttle bus.
The Airport Rail Link and the MRT charge separate fares. MRT fares and payment are on Getting to Tha Prachan. Trains do not run overnight. If you land late, take a taxi.
Don Mueang by train
- Follow the signs to Don Mueang station and take the SRT Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat.
- Walk about 5 minutes to MRT Bang Sue.
- Take the MRT Blue Line to Sanam Chai and leave by the Museum Siam exit.
- From Sanam Chai, continue as from Suvarnabhumi.
Taxi
Join the official taxi queue at the terminal and ask the driver to use the meter. Drivers may not know which campus "Thammasat" means. Say "Thammasat Tha Prachan, near Sanam Luang", or show the driver ธรรมศาสตร์ ท่าพระจันทร์ ใกล้สนามหลวง.
Expressway tolls are added to the fare and paid in cash, so carry Thai baht notes and coins. Airport taxis add a fixed fee to the meter fare. Check the amount at the taxi desk.
Ride-hailing
Grab and Bolt show the fare before you book. Use the pickup point the app gives you. You need mobile data or Wi-Fi to book, so read SIM cards and Wi-Fi if you have not set up a Thai number yet.
